Reflection & Perspective
Designing the learning center has been an immersive journey that deepened my understanding of how architecture can interweave functionality, sustainability, and cultural relevance. Anchored by the core idea of "interweaving," my design concept aims to harmonize the recycled and the crafted, reflecting not only the physical composition of the building but also the cultural tapestry of Kampung Attap. This project allowed me to explore the essence of place-making and its potential to foster connections between people, history, and the urban fabric.
Through site analysis and townscape appraisal, I recognized the unique identity of Kampung Attap—its vibrant yet understated blend of old-world charm and emerging creative energy. These findings shaped my approach to designing spaces that respect the site’s brutalist context while introducing modern elements to promote inclusivity and sustainability. The process of balancing form, function, and symbolism was both challenging and rewarding, pushing me to think critically about how architecture can communicate and resonate with its users.
Moving forward, the learning center represents a bold yet thoughtful statement on how architecture can inspire a culture of learning, creativity, and sustainability. By integrating open gathering spaces, studios, and exhibition areas, the design envisions a dynamic environment where ideas can flow freely and diverse communities can converge. The adaptive reuse of materials and focus on crafting further ties into my goal of creating a space that not only reflects but actively contributes to sustainable urban development.

I aim for this project to serve as a blueprint for how architecture can transcend aesthetics to address environmental and social challenges. In a broader sense, this learning center is not just a building but a platform—encouraging dialogues, fostering creativity, and embodying the spirit of interweaving. As I refine the design, I remain committed to ensuring that it remains adaptable, inclusive, and deeply rooted in the identity of Kampung Attap, paving the way for a more connected and sustainable urban future. And last but not least, I would want to thank Mr Shawn once again for guiding me throughout my penultimate semester of my architectural degree
