In this Green Strategies assignment, our group is tasked with critically appraising and analyzing passive sustainable design strategies through the examination of two architectural case studies. These studies are selected from different climate regions—one from a tropical climate and the other from an arid, Mediterranean, temperate continental, or polar climate. The primary focus is on understanding how passive design strategies, such as site planning, daylighting, façade design, natural ventilation, and strategic landscaping, are applied within these architectural projects. By comparing the implementation of these strategies in both case studies, we aim to evaluate their effectiveness in enhancing energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and user experience.
Our analysis will delve into the theories and principles of passive design, considering how they respond to the specific climate and cultural contexts of each project. The outcome of this study will be presented in the form of an A0 infographic poster and an A4 landscape booklet, consisting of written text, diagrams, sketches, drawings, and images, along with a pre-recorded presentation. This comprehensive approach not only allows us to explore the impact of passive strategies on spatial quality but also encourages a deeper understanding of sustainable design practices in diverse environmental conditions. Additionally, peer assessment will be conducted to ensure fair evaluation of each group member’s contribution.
